When Courtney Beck was finishing undergrad at the University of Florida, she was lost.

She was an accomplished gymnast who became an NCAA All-American.

But she didnโ€™t know how to network.

She didnโ€™t even think she could approach her professors to ask for direction.

That shyness set her back.

And she felt the pressure to figure out what was next.

Sports broadcasting seemed like a dream.

But the competition was fierce.

She had no idea where she really fit in.

Then she attended a Sport Management Conference and a conversation with a professor would change everything.

During her Ph.D. Program, she approached the Chair of the Sport Management Department to launch a women in sports organization.

Professionals came to speak to students about their own journey in sport.

And she realized:

"Maybe I was not the only one feeling lost during those earlier years.

This organization could help other young women.

Hearing others' stories and experiences could provide direction and build community."

It pushed her to keep going.

Even when she didnโ€™t have everything figured out.

Fast forward to today:

โ€ข Sheโ€™s got an MBA and a PhD.

โ€ข Is teaching at Florida State University in the Sport Management program.

โ€ข And combining all the other things she loves like building a positive community, inspiring others to chase their dreams, and podcasting as a founder of Plenty of Positivity, LLC.

She didnโ€™t start out with a 10-year plan.

But she did keep exploring what felt right at each stage of her development.

So whatโ€™s her advice for you?

1. Donโ€™t panic if you donโ€™t know exactly whatโ€™s next.

The path may change.

But you can still keep learning from it.

2. Network early.

Donโ€™t wait until youโ€™re โ€œready.โ€

Take a risk and talk to the people who inspire you.

3. Try new things.

Start that podcast youโ€™ve been thinking about.

Attend that sports management conference that might change your life.

Because you really donโ€™t have to have your life, sport or career all figured out yet.
