Christian Vargas feels pretty lucky.

His dad would draw cartoon characters growing up.

Ninja Turtles.

Power Rangers.

And watching the smiles he brought to peopleโ€™s faces was inspiring.

So Christian picked up a pencil and started drawing too.

He thought, โ€œI want to make people happy through my art.โ€

And that seed grew into something bigger.

It wasnโ€™t easy.

He comes from a family that started with nothing.

His parents immigrated from Mexico with a dream.

They worked hard.

Saved.

And eventually bought a home.

The first in the family to do that.

It taught Christian what grit looks like.

That drive led him to work on design projects.

During lunch breaks.

Even after his 9-5 job.

Heโ€™d create graphics and other content around his favorite sports milestones.

And he put his work out there.

Not knowing if it would catch anyoneโ€™s attention.

But he kept pushing.

He had a village behind him.

His parents.

The love of his life.

Friends.

Mentors.

They believed in him even when he doubted himself.

And then one day, it happened.

He got a DM from someone at the San Diego Wave.

And he thought, โ€œThis is a scam.โ€

So he deleted it.

Not once.

But twice.

Itโ€™s a good thing the Wave hit him up again.

This time via email.

They connected.

And it led to paid work.

A huge milestone for Christian.

He could finally say, โ€œWe made it.โ€

And thatโ€™s why heโ€™s passing these lessons on to you:

1. Start small.

Whether itโ€™s doodling as a kid or doing side projects on your lunch break, it all adds up.

2. Lean on your support system.

You might be the face of your journey.

But itโ€™s the people behind you that make it possible.

3. Keep putting yourself out there.

Even when it feels like no oneโ€™s watching.

Someone always is.

Whether you know someone whoโ€™s just starting out or in transition, opportunities in the sports industry are out there.

Share Christianโ€™s story with them today.

Itโ€™ll encourage them to stay patient, curious, and trust in their process.

Christian, thank you for making it so easy to connect like friends for this series!
